USB thumb drive supposed to work with digital photo frame?

I purchased a Curtis DPF712 digital photo frame for a Christmas gift but it does not read the usb thumb drive I insert into the usb port. It will read off of the digital camera card direct from the camera, but does not recognize the usb drive when inserted. IS it supposed to? Or is the usb port there for some other reason? Or is this unit defective?

Are you sure that the USB port isnt there so that you can connect the frame to your computer to upload pictures? Make sure you read your manual, it should give specific information about the USB port.

I think the USB port is not supposed to read any drive or device directly. It is meant for downloading the photos from your PC only. You’ll have to install on your PC the softwere you got with the photo frame, create a folder on the desktop, move the photos in this folder from other folders (e.g. my pictures). Now upload all these photos into your DPF.

The manual is poorly written. It seems to lump USB devices with the various suppported memory cards. I don’t think it has any place to save photos internally at all. My best guess is that it reads from whatever compatible storage medium is currently plugged in. Some USB thumb drives might not be compatible. Some of the thumb drives we have work on our desktop, while others only work on our newer laptop computer. The manual recommends going to http://www.curtisint.com for more information.

I received a Curtis DPF712 for Christmas and was having trouble also with trying to use a thumb drive. I tried putting the pictures on a SD card and then inserted it into the frame and it came alive with pictures. You can put music on the thumb drive and the photo frame will play music from that however it will not play music and show a slide show at the same time. Maybe I will get that to work also.
